I am a thoughtful, compassionate, introspective vegan.  I commend and support people with strong vegan beliefs.  I read and research information about vegan diets and lifestyle.  I love intellectually sound documentaries promoting veganism.  I can not watch explicit documentaries about factory farming.  I know it exists, and if someone is on the fence about veganism, and they need to see to belief, than by all means they should see these type of films.  I guess I am just too sensitive, it makes me physically sick to watch factory farming and the horrific visuals of innocent, dead animals. I really liked this first video, so simple, no words but, very powerful.  There are some disturbing images of factory farms, dead, animals, caged animals, and horrifically malnourished people.  When those images came on, I actually cried.  However, the positive message way outweighed the cruelty of the world.  So, take a look at this video and pass it on.

We started our Christmas vacation in Bend, Oregon, it was one of 3 cities on our list of cities to check out where to move in Oregon. We are originally from Salem, and have camped a lot near Bend but, never really spent that much time in the city. How do I go vegan?

Going vegan can be daunting and confusing. I hate to assume, but, for argument’s sake, I will assume this once, that if you are thinking about going vegan you are most likely already a vegetarian or a flexitarian. Your current lifestyle and the way you eat will help dictate how easy a transistion to veganism is.

If you do not like to cook, becoming vegan will be more difficult. If you are used to eating processed, convenience food, being vegan will be more of a challenge. If you live in a rural area without specialty food stores, again, more difficult. Challenging but, not impossible.

Meat-Free, huh? #vegan

Theresa —  November 4, 2011  0

Why is it that a plant-based, vegan, no meat diet is so hard for the masses to understand? Why are so many people immediately dismissive and defensive of a choice I have made? This is not true of everyone, thanks Mom, for looking at the website, searching other websites and buying books in your quest to make us something to eat when we visit.

I think it is too easy to say people are ignorant and will only accept the status quo. But, is this it? Are people so self-absorbed and ignorant that they just accept that Walmart and McDonald’s have polluted every aspect of our life and just accept that this is the norm. Do people just not think about how the food gets to their plate.   It is incomprehensible to me that someone can be aware of the abhor-able conditions animals live in just to feed us. I will not get into the vast and debilitating effect factory farming and consumption of animal products has on our environment. Recent examples of ignorance; my daughter’s dentist insisting that we have canines to consume meat, that is a fact and why would anyone be vegan. Seriously, I wish I had a smart comeback but, honestly, I was somewhat shocked into silence, I think my response was something in we love animals and it was a morality decision for us . . .
